Well I spent a good amount of time at first looking through my textbook to find answerers. After realizing
they weren't in there I looked at the link that Preston gave us to try and read the poem in translated old English but these pages had no lines on the side and I didn't feel like reading 40 chapters to find my section. Eventually I was able to get on skype with Josh and we researched the questions together. We went on Wikipidea,Spark Notes, Gutenberg's website, found sites with the poem that had the lines to the left so we were able to find the section and we even tried to find the textbook for free that Preston referenced but we had no luck. Lots of research but we got it.
These are my questions:
1.What future does Hrothgar predict for
Beowulf?
2.Who is Hygd and why is she not like Modthryth?
3.Beowulf reports to Hygelac that Hrothgar may marry his daughter Freawaru to Ingeld. Why does he plan to do that? What does Beowulf expect the result will be? (Remember the Finn story, lines 1070-1158.) How does Beowulf think the peace will be broken? Is this the type of report we expected from the hero Beowulf, or are we seeing a new side of him?
4.How does Beowulf report about his own adventures? Does he report accurately?
5.What does Beowulf do with the treasure he was given? What does Hygelac give him?
BEOWULF AND THE DRAGON (lines 2200-3182, pp. 79-99)
[The Dragon Wakes] (lines 2200-2509, pp. 79-86)
1.How much later does Part 2 take place? What kings have died in the meanwhile? What danger now exists?
2.Why is the dragon angry? Why did the man take a cup? How did the treasure come to be there in the first place? (The speech of the lone survivor, the one who put the gold in the barrow, is in a typically Old English elegiac tone.
3.What did the dragon destroy that evening?
4.Why does Beowulf think his home was burnt? Why does he order a new shield? How will he fight this battle? What will happen to him?
5.How did Hygelac die? (The description in lines 2354-2379 begins one of several versions of Geatish history and Hygelac's death we will get.) What did Beowulf do after Hygelac's death? What happened when he returned home? Did he accept Hygd's offer to become king

1. He will be the king
of Geats, receive many treasures, and make peace with other nations. It’s a
very hopeful future.
2. Hygd is very young
and beautiful. She is wise while Modthryth
is very evil and merciless.
3. He wants to end the
feud between the Danes and Ingeld. Ingled will devoice the daughter and attack
Hrothgar. An old warrior will convince
Ingeld to fight. No because hero’s are supposed to be always act with
honor.
4. He reports his
adventures in a very exaggerated way. He’s honest about the story but he
explains it in a way that builds himself up more. It’s not that expected
because he’s supposed to a noble hero but he is concerned about glory so it
makes sense.
5. Beowulf gives most of
his treasure to Hygelac and Hygd and in return Hygd gives him treasure and land
for himself.
1. Part 2 takes
place forty winters (forty years) later.
Hygelac has died and there is now
a dragon.
2. Thief has stolen his
gold (cup). The man was poor and hungry. It was left there by a man from an
ancient race who realized he like his ancestors would die and therefore buried
the treasure.
3. The dragon just
rampaged through the land trying to find the thief and destroys his throne
hall.
4. He believes he has
angered God. He makes a new shield to fight the dragon. He will fight it alone. He will die.
5. He dies against the Frisians.
Beowulf was able to get away but he mourned for his death. He was offered the
thrown. He did not out of respect for Hygelac's son.
