Act IV Active Reading notes

Almost done with the play. (organized my notes like Josh Ng)

  • "Thunder. Enter the three Witches"
    • Wonder how they made "thunder" during the play
    • Probably had smoke and light flashing
  • "Finger of birth-strangled babe"
    • That's pretty dark
    • You can really imagine how evil these witches are
  • "Hecate"
    • Some goddess
    • But she seems really powerful
    • Her list of abilities make her seem like a queen Goddess over the other Gods
  • "Something wicked this way comes"
    • Ha, witches calling Macbeth wicked!
      • Does this make Macbeth worst than the witches in the audiences eyes?
  • "First Apparition: an armed Head
    • What's an armed Head?
  • "Second Apparition: A bloody Child"
    • Really dark
  • "Third Apparition: a Child crowned, with a tree in his hand"
    • Seems awfully nice for a witch apparition
  • "Seek to know no more."
    • Love the phrase
    • Want to tell my children that when they ask me to many questions
  • "Then you'll buy 'em to sell again.
    • Don't fully understand what the son is saying exactly to his mom
    • Is he saying she'll never be satisfied with a husband?
  • "Of horrid hell can come a devil more danm'd In evils to top Macbeth."
    • Macbeth isn't very popular with Macduff is he?
  • " 'Tis call'd the evil: A most miraculous work in this good king;"
    • A bit of irony, paradox, satire, I like it
  • "Let's make us medicines of our great revenge, To cure this deadly grief."
    • Just really cool lines
    • Making a bloody vendetta sound like couch syrup
  • "Dispute it like a man"
    • Hahaha, whoa Malcolm, way to sympathize with the man that just lost his whole family
  • "Be this the whetstone of you sword: let grief Convet to anger; blunt no the hear, enrage it."
    • Anakin Skywalker anyone?
